From all the talk going on around the three schools that are going to be closed, I would say roughly 70% of the kids will either be going to Norton, Dickenson, Lee, or Russel county if the schools are not renamed.

The money will allow the school system to begin construction once plans for building new schools are complete. School leaders say there are several different options to discuss when it comes to improving schools.
?That restructuring will take into account the configuration of grade levels in schools, we are going to be looking at the middle school concept, Dickenson County does not have a middle school,? said Jewell Askins, Dickenson County School Board Chair.
Boucher said that Dickenson could receive a grant worth $19.5 million dollars to help repay the federal loan."

A 42 mill loan and possibly a 19 mil grant would solve a lot things. And the schools were damaged in 77, but are just getting fixed?:D

I know exactly where the money for D i c k enson county is coming from, so I do know a little something about what is going on there. You, along with the rest of everybody in southwest virginia know what a mess it is in Wise county with the politics. The only reason, and I say this twice, the only reason J.H. Rivers "flip flopped" on his stance on consolidation was because BSG was going to get left out of getting a school. His wife then flip flopped on her support of this also. Come on now, how many of us get a good laugh out of watching her at the SB meetings. The woman has no clue as to what is happening. On Monday, she almost single handedly torpedoed AES's new gym with her antics. And I must say, Rocky Cantrell must have had an epiphane(sp) when he gave his suggestion. He never has time to read his packet. He only got voted in because Barry Nelson didn't run for re-election. All-in-all, he has no clue either. Ted Thompson, don't even get me started on him, I know too much from my old days growing up in Derby, the same place he grew up. I know him well. Bates and Mullins seem to be there for the children along with Hutchinson. Perry and Kilgore, they both are in it for the glory of it, nothing more.
Now, look at the BOS. Luntsford will always vote what his constituents want, Shortt showed me two weeks ago that he is a chicken and caves in to strong arm tactics, Kilgore, Meador, Atkins, and Tate all have the county's interest in mind. Robbins and Rivers are always trying to "grandstand" the meetings with their bull. Neither one of them care diddly about the county. Just look at their voting record.:mooning:

EXACTLY Wise could get Fed money as well IF the BOS and SB would come up with a REAL plan and work together to ASK for the money (The Fed is NOT going to throw money at something that no on wants)
With the "Stimulus money" that the Fed is currently throwing around IF a locality has a legit request for money for something like schools they would get it but they will have to ASK for it

We are not in a flood plain. The story is the D-county schools have been waiting in line since the 70s. The Grundy project was finished first. While at one time I thought there might be some sources for funding, I don't see any now. Wise is just getting by on the cash they have, after the cuts.

Trust me there is other money out there for projects ready to move foward it could be that if the boards put more time into that research they could figure it out......However some "Have a Life" and cant be bothered with even reading there meeting prep packets

Do you ever wonder how some of these folks keep a regular job?:D I looked at the requirements for the Board jobs- I'm sure you were supposed to look after the best interests of the people who elected you. I guess preparing for a meeting wasn't on the list- for some.

You are a fortune teller! Story in the Cornfield says the 2 boards are talking about hiring an outsider to ref the meeting between the two boards.:D

I have people ask me all the time what is going on up in Wise Co with the schools and my only reply is "I have no idea..." I cant for the life of me find a single reason to keep things in the stone age.
